The house hunt, pack and move, all in TWO days, EEEEK!

So today I come home from work, exhausted after getting to bed around 4:30am this morning after being at the hospital for most of the night with Matt... all i wanted to do was to have dinner and hop into my pjs and go to bed early... but no such luck.

While I was in the kitchen preparing dinner- Byron went and checked the mail and came across a letter addressed 'To the Tenants', so he opened it... inside was a letter explaining that the house we were living in was to be repossessed by the Bank at 10:15am on Monday morning (it is now Thursday night) and anything still in the house at this point would be theirs. As you can imagine i had a MAJOR STRESS OUT!

We called our landlords- they are an agency which act on behalf of the owner and asked them if they knew anything about it. They came around to the house right away and promised they would look into it and give us a call first thing Friday morning, there was nothing they could do right there and then as it was too late in the day and the office had closed.

Thursday night we feared the worst- being homeless in London. What a terrible few days we were having....

Anyways, Friday morning our landlords called us and confirmed that it is true- that we most certainly need to move out of the house by Monday morning. AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! What the?!!!! It turned out the owner hadnt paid his mortgage for 7 months- what a joker!! He must have been getting at least £2000 a month for rent from our house and he must have just been spending it on himself with no regards for his mortgage!

So Friday at work I had a look at a few places on gumtree.com and called to arrange for us to look at 9 places on Saturday.

Friday night Byron had to work, so I spent the night packing. It's unbelievable how much stuff we have accumulated since we have been here. We had SO much.

Saturday morning we were up early and out the door by 8am to start looking at new places to live. We looked in Acton and Shepherds Bush in West London and Manor House in North London. We both know of Aussie's that live in those areas so we thought we'd give them a go. We eventually decided (by default) on one of the places we looked at in Manor House.

It's a cute little place- only a few minutes walk from Finsbury Park which is MASSIVE and a beautiful green park! It's only a 5- 10 minute walk from the tube station and there is a bus stop right at the end of our street that will take me practically to the front of my work! There is a nice shopping centre and a McDonald's only a 3 minute walk from our house which Byron is completely stoked about! We are living in the bottom floor flat of a 2 storey place and we're sharing with just one other couple and they are lovely! Our room is quite big and we have a cute little kitchen and a nice backyard so we're pretty happy with it!!

We paid our deposit and rent for the next month and headed back to the old house to continue packing. We decided we would try and do a couple of trips that night so we packed our suitcases full of stuff and caught the tube over to the new place. (The tube was a NIGHTMARE with heavy suitcases!!) We gave our room a clean and unpacked what we had brought with us and then headed back home. By this time it was midnight and there was no way we'd have time to make a trip back before the last tube which is usually around 12:45am.

We got home and spent half of the night packing and ended up completely exhausted. Poor Matt was in so much pain he had to just sit there and watch us pack because he couldnt help us...

We tried to get some sleep which only ended up being a couple of hours.. we organised for a taxi moving van to pick up our stuff at 9:30am and take it to the new house- Byron was able to go in the moving van to the new house, but me and Matt had to get the train there. By the time we had arrived at our new place Byron had unpacked everything out of the van and it was all in our room waiting to be put away. Which ended up being my lovely job!! Byron was supposed to work on Saturday at 12pm until 11pm and he managed to get the day off so we could go house hunting. So there was no way he could get out of working on Sunday too, so he got ready in a rush and was off to work at 11:30am and I stayed home all day unpacking everything!! I finally finished unpacking everything at around 5pm. Matt just laid down and watched Friends all afternoon and watched me unpack!!

So that is our moving adventure!! It was an exhausting few days!

Our new address is-

55 Umfreville Road
Manor House
London
N4 1RY

We are so much happier in our new house- it's only 15 minutes to Leicester Square and its close to my work and Byron's work- it's perfect for us really!!! So in the end, something good came out of a crappy situation!
